MGET Installation Statistics

When the MGET setup program completes, it anonymously reports a record of the installation to a server in our laboratory. The report includes the MGET version number, an indication of the success or failure of the different installation steps, and various other data that help us plan future MGET releases (e.g. the version numbers of Python, ArcGIS, and R on the machine). Also included is a number that uniquely identifies the computer that MGET was installed upon, allowing us to count the total number of computers that have MGET installed.

Although the MGET installation reports are anonymous, contain no personally-identifiable or other sensitive information, and are maintained on a secure server in our lab, we recognize that some users may prefer that no report be sent when MGET is installed. For a complete description of the installation reporting mechanism and instructions on how to disable it, please see our Privacy Policy.

Computers with MGET installed

This plot shows the cumulative number of computers with MGET installed. The installation reporting mechanism was introduced in MGET 0.7 Beta 1 in mid-June 2009, and not fully activated until the final realease of MGET 0.7 on 31 July 2009. As a result, we did not start counting MGET installations in earnest until August 2009, and this plot does not account for installations that occurred before that time.

The counting mechanism accounts for upgrades. If a computer is upgraded from 0.7 to 0.8, it is not counted twice; the plot will reflect the date that MGET was first installed.

MGET installations by location

This plot shows the locations of the computers that MGET has been installed on. This information was obtained by cross-referencing the IP address of the computer against information maintained by the Internet's routing infrastructure.

Versions of MGET installed

This plot shows the counts of computers for which various versions of MGET are installed. The counting mechanism accounts for upgrades. If a computer is upgraded from 0.7 to 0.8, it is not counted twice; the plot will reflect the version that was most recently installed.

Versions of Python, ArcGIS, and R installed

These plots show the counts of computers for which various versions of Python, ArcGIS, and R were installed at the time that MGET was installed. If newer versions of these programs were installed after MGET was installed, we do not know about it because we only receive reports when MGET is installed. If MGET is installed on a given computer multiple times, the plots reflect the situation at the most recent installation.
